An Unspoken Reality: Male Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer

This month, Jackfir is giving a portion of all sales to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, which helps advance the world’s most promising breast cancer research.

We initially decided to donate in support of our biologically female friends, but after diving into the disease, we discovered that about 1 in every 100 breast cancer diagnoses is a man. I don’t know about you, but that is more than I imagined. We NEVER hear about male breast cancer. People assigned male at birth don’t have breasts as we have come to know them, per se, but we all have fatty tissue, ducts, and breast cells that can become cancerous.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women and, like many cancers, is caused by a combination of genetics, radiation, and environmental factors. One factor that may increase your risk of breast cancer is the use of talcum powder, which historically was found in many personal care products.

It can be scary how little we know about the causes of cancer despite advancements in how we treat it. One proactive thing that I have done after a leukemia diagnosis is minimize the exposures in my daily life that I can control, among other wellness rituals. I eat organic whenever possible, I try to use plant-based products vs. chemicals whenever possible, I prioritize sleep, and I exercise.

We hope that our small effort this month helps women and men everywhere in treating and learning more about this devastating disease.

Stay clean and leave no trace,

Charlie
