A Review of Outlive by Peter Attia, MD

written by Charlie Razook, Founder

I founded Jackfir out of a general obsession with men’s health. Why are men living shorter lives than women? What can we do to live longer lives? In Outlive, Peter Attia asks similar questions, but he adds a layer: How do we live longer, better lives.

Attia differentiates between lifespan and healthspan, the latter of which is concerned about how healthy we are in our last decade. How long can we live well is that question. I love how Attia reframes our thinking about living long, since it isn’t fun to live long in pain with a difficult chronic illness.

Attia breaks western and eastern medicine into Medicine 2.0 and 3.0, respectively. This is nothing new. Prevention versus treatment. But he dives into technical terms such as genetic markers for Alzheimer’s, specific exercises, and other early warning signs/prevention tactics that can best equip us for the inevitable aging decline.

All in all, an interesting read to make you think about how well you want to live in your final ten years. We are here for a good time, not a long time, pals. Small choices like cleaner products add up.

Stay clean and leave no trace,
